State of the Union

Ok, so I realize that my updates are starting to spread out more than I intended for them to, however it is mostly because I've been distracted with work and enjoying the weather here in AZ.  I thought I'd take a few minutes to talk about where we are and what our plans for the next few month may be. 1.  Where are we? We are currently in southern Arizona. 2.  What have you done in southern Arizona? I've made many blog posts about some of our activities, but to name a few we have: Visited Wilcox, AZ and the Rex Allen Museum. Explored Bisbee, AZ and the wonderful art, architecture and history is holds.  Enjoyed a day in Tombstone, AZ.  Great town with history and reasonable prices. Marveled at the sets in Old Tucson and then re-watched many of the films done there. Toured around the Pima Air and Space Museum.  More history! Spent time shopping in Sierra Vista. 3.  What are you still planning to do in southern Arizona? We are planning ...

Short weekend - Part 2

Image
On Sunday we went to the Pima Air and Space Museum after breakfast.  We took our time walking around the 80 acres of exhibits and had a wonderful time.  It was a beautiful day for visiting the museum.  The price of admission is pretty reasonable, so if you are in the area I would definitely suggest keeping this on your list.  I took a ton of pictures so I'll only post a few below. Very well done exhibit.  B17 bomber and memorial to the 390th Bomb group Mig29 Fulcrum - Notice how it looks like the F-15? Side of the SR-71 Blackbird A-10 I had to grab this Marvin the Martian pic!

Short weekend - Part 1

As opposed to last weekend this weekend was short.  I say that because not only was it only two days as normal but we packed a lot into those two days. Saturday we visited Bisbee, AZ.  It is a neat old mining town now filled with a large group of artists.  The town has a unique charm and walking around looking at the various galleries and art installations reminds me of my lack of visual artistic talent.  There are some really special people that live there. We started the day off with the mine tour and then walked downtown and visited many of the stores.  The locals were all very friendly and welcoming.  In town looking toward the hillside "B" An old mining train in front of the museum downtown The entrance to the Queen mine as we got started on our tour.

Long Weekend

One thing about working for the new company is the change in holiday schedule.  We had a 3 day weekend recently and Karen and I took the opportunity to head out and have a little fun.  As per my MO, I made a list of possible activities for us to do and together we chose one:  Visit Old Tucson. It was a ton of fun and interesting to see some of the set pieces that were used in many of the movies and TV shows that we enjoy.  We spent almost the entire day there and had a great time. "The old mission" Was used in Tombstone, The Three Amigos, and Arizona to name a few. Old barn featured in the end of McClintock Do not pass go... Main Street Inside of the little church Neat old Stage Coach The Reno has been in a ton of movies and tv shows from Tombstone to The Twilight Zone.

Planning new activities

I found that I have a long weekend this weekend due to changes in our Holidays from my old company to our new company.  We're looking for something to do this weekend instead of sitting around.  Here are a few ideas we are mulling over: Visiting the Chiricahua National Monument Explore the Cochise Stronghold Spend a day sightseeing in Bisbee Look at all of the planes at the Pima Air and Space Museum Take a trip to Old Tucson We're not sure if we'll do more than 1 of these this weekend, but it would be nice!

It's great to be back in AZ

Image
Our trip to California was great and we had a wonderful time visiting with family, but it is great to be back in AZ.  It's crazy how expensive it is out there.  Food, Gas, Housing you name it and it is noticeably more expensive than 'normal'.  Beautiful state, nice to visit, wouldn't want to live there. Meanwhile, back in AZ we have been enjoying relaxing after our vacation time.  Its funny how being back to work feels like I'm getting more rest than I did when I was off.  One amazing thing about AZ is the spectacular sights you get at sunrise and sunset.  It's truly amazing.  Here are a few shots just to give you an idea. Not exactly "Sunrise", but not long after... ...that is the Moon BTW...

To CA and back again

My apologies for not updating recently.  We've spent that last few weeks on the road in locations with very little to no cell phone coverage so my access to internet has been spotty at best and non-existent most of the time. We had a great time visiting our family in California for Xmas and New Years.  It's so good to see everyone and bringing Chappy out there made it much easier for us to enjoy our time.  No major issues on the trip only a stuck pocket door going to my office/bunkroom and I was able to fix that (mostly) when we got back. Here are a few pictures of some of the things.  I wish I could post them all but it would take forever. Of Course Karen and I found a  Brunch place that served a decent bloody Mary. Our Trip to Anza Borrego followed the rains resulting in many plants in bloom early! Walking through a slot canyon.  Notice the tipped column in the top center!  Yikes! Lunch prep.  That is Big Joe's homemade...
