Crazy World

I can't believe it's almost August and time to start accelerating our plans for heading back to AZ for the winter.  We have the campground booked starting November 1st and that seems both far away and right around the corner at the same time.  Of course with all that is going on right now it makes planning a little more challenging, but we are forging ahead.

We've found traveling in an RV to be probably one of the safer ways to go especially on long trips.  Here are a couple of reasons why we like the RV for travel during a pandemic.

1.  Gotta Go?  Use the trailer! - Those long drives are often punctuated with stops for fuel and those stops almost always involve someone using the bathroom.  If you travel with an RV you have your own bathroom and you don't have to risk exposing yourself to the maskless horde.  Just jump in the trailer and use the facilities while the tank is topping off.

2.  Hungry?  Use the trailer! - Fuel stops also provide an opportunity to fill up more than the tow vehicle.  Truck stops and gas stations are not known for the most healthy food choices and the risk of getting a cheeseburger with a side of Corona doesn't really interest me.  Be safe!  Run to the trailer, make a healthy sandwich, have a warmed up bowl of leftover chili (the best kind), make some pasta, it's much better than the truck stop fare anyway.

3.  Campground closed?  Boondock! - They say Corona may cause brain damage and I'd like to think that's why we see all of these idiots out there infecting everyone on purpose but who am I fooling.  Whether the campground you booked as a waypoint on your trip is filled with mask denying disease spreaders or it's closed because "they done infected the county", with your RV you can overnight in a ton of places.  Walmart, Cabela's, Cracker Barrel and many more will often allow RVs to overnight in their lots.  Truck stops, rest areas and pull-outs are often good places to catch a few hours of sleep as well in a pinch.

4.  Want away from people?  It's easy! - Open up your favorite Corona impact map, (One of those that uses the different size dots to show how many Grandparents we've have sacrificed for the economy), and look for an area without a dot or a very small dot and head on out!  Staying away from the hot spots makes sense, and in the rural areas you can find some of the best camping anyway.

Whatever your plans are for this year (and maybe next year too), STAY SAFE.  Wear a mask, social distance and don't put yourself in situations where you are around people who don't do those things.  Corona and Idiocy are deadly.
