Almost Dry and relocating Chappy

10 days since calling the insurance and the water emergency people and we were told today, we are almost dry except for one spot and it should be done tomorrow.  The plastic still hangs over the doorways, the floors are totally stripped, the drying devices are still loudly moaning away and hopefully tomorrow that all will change.  Then the real fun starts - replacing everything that was damaged.

On a separate front, we've been having some discussions about our campground where Chappy is staying.  I don't think we'll be taking him back there next year.  It's for a number of reasons and I'll try to sum it up with a list:

  1. The cost.  It is $1800 for the season.  We were also just informed that if you stay in your camper more than 10 weekdays in a month, then you must switch from being seasonal and pay a monthly rate starting at $450/month.  This makes no sense to me as no other campground does this kind of thing that we've seen.
  2. I'm all for rules and we follow all of the rules out at the campground, but man do they come up with some weird ones.  Now, I'm sure they have a reason for each one, but it's just plain weird.  We stay at a lot of campgrounds and I've yet to come across some of these rules.   IE, Tarps to cover your wood etc need to be a specific color.  All Bicycles have to have an approved flag (Tarps and flags available for sale on-site wink-wink).  All guests are $7 including delivery drivers like the pizza guy.
  3. Extra fees.  $200 if you want to have a golf cart.  $50 a day if you're not leaving your trailer there over winter and haven't moved by 9/30 at 11:00 AM (Why that time is so important I'm not sure.) $7 per person for visitors.
  4. Not so easy in/out.  We got the site because it was in the corner of the park and we thought it would be easy to pull the trailer in/out compared to our driveway.  That was true the first time we dropped it off, but when you factor in the narrow roads lined with cars after everyone starts coming out, it's actually MORE of a PITA than backing in the driveway.
All that said, we are probably going to visit our old campground and see what sites they have available for next year.  Especially if we sell the house and need to have a full time summer place $1100 a year out there with less rules and more sanity seems like a better deal.

We did enjoy our year out at this place, and it would probably have been worth it if we had young kids, but it just is not a great fit for us, and most regular campers - for sure.
