Emptying the black tank - What to do if you are running full and don't have a dump station
Last year you may recall that we put in a 50 Amp Post at Karen's Mom's house in Michigan, where we've been staying the past few weeks, but one thing we don't have here is a place to dump our black water. Our two grey tanks are not an issue. We have an adapter that we hook a long garden hose to, that allows us to empty those tanks to the back of the field. However the black tank is of a concern to us. Since we've been here we've determined our best options.
1. A Porta-Potty. We found a place that was able to deliver a porta-john to us at a cost of around $100 for the entire month.
2. Buy a portable black water tank. This is a good idea if you sometimes find yourself in a situation where there is not a convenient dump station and you NEED to use your own toilet. We found one that is slightly larger than our black tank at 36 gallons. Made by Camco, it has attachments for a hitch if you need to tow it a small distance, and one that allows you to hang it from your ladder for travel. No review on it yet, since we've only pulled it out of the box.
3. We found out after we ordered the porta-potty that the same company will empty our tank for us for $25 dollars. (Although they billed us for $40, and we've yet to call and straighten that out.)
These three options are by no means the end. For example, we could dump into the septic for the house, if we wanted to dig up the access port on THE OTHER SIDE of the house. So far options 1 and 3 have worked best for us and we haven't needed to use our portable.
Just a thought.
For anyone that is interested, here is what we bought and a link to where you may find one.

you think you have all the bases covered and then a new situation comes up. fortunately you are good at finding solutions.
ReplyDeleteso they would empty the tank, but that is only if you also have the portapotty.
Actually, we found out about their ability to empty the tank AFTER we got the porta potty. No porta potty next time.
